BIOGRAPHY

Bursting out of the screen is probably NILS OLIVETO’s motto. An accomplished athlete and a versatile actor, it is with the same passion for high performance that he stands in front of the camera. This experienced artist has indeed several productions to his credit. Sometimes evil, sometimes hero, Nils is capable of displaying screen presence in the skin of a wide range of characters.

Born in Greenfield Park, Quebec (Canada), Nils grew up on the South Shore of Montreal. He was actively involved in theatre and improvisation, but his early passion was in sports while attending Royal George High School. At 16, he started training seriously as a track and field athlete, and started getting national attention in the hammer throw. In 1993, he earned a spot on the Canadian National Jr. Track and Field Team and began an international career that would take him to major championships meets all over North-America, Europe, and Africa. After graduating in 1995 with a Pure and Applied Science degree from Champlain College in St-Lambert, Nils received an athletic scholarship from the University of Oklahoma (NCAA first division). He graduated with both a Bachelor Degree in Health and Sports Science (1998) and a Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology and Human Performance (2000) from OU.

The acting bug hit Nils when he was encouraged by a former drama high school teacher to pursue acting professionally. While in Oklahoma, he started studying acting and screenwriting with the OU Film Department, and later began working on local TV projects in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. In 2000, Nils moved to Los Angeles, where he jumped into the big leagues. Under the guidance of Jon Simmons, he continued studying his craft in Burbank, California with top actors like Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), D.J. Cotrona, and Brian Wade. He was featured on major blockbusters like Windtalkers (Nicolas Cage), Showtime (Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro), and the Sorority Boys (Michael Rosenbaum, Barry Watson, and Harland Williams). He also appeared on the hit TV show Boston Public, starring fellow Montreal actress Jessalyn Gilsig.

Nils is first and foremost a keen observer of human nature. Involved in several projects such as scientific articles dealing with periodization in exercise physiology, physical education teaching, applied kinesiology in clinical osteopathy, and stress management / visualisation / autogenic training for high performance, this artist-scientist brings an unconventional and thoughtful light to the actor’s job. These thoughts are therefore reflected in his approach to the stage, which is always rich and consistent.

After a two-year hiatus, training on the National Bobsleigh Olympic Development program in Calgary, Nils is back in Quebec to work on pre-production for a feature called "The Mouth of Truth". Nils is the executive producer, screenwriter, and the lead actor of this drama which takes place in the Ancient Rome and co-produced by the United States and Europe. Shooting is expected to start in 2010 in Romania, Italy, Canada and the U.S. He recently finished directing his first feature-film, "The Cedar's Tears", which he also produced, wrote, and starred.

Crever l’écran, tel est sans doute la devise de NILS OLIVETO, acteur aux aptitudes aussi diversifiées que les rôles qu’il a personnifiés au cours de sa carrière. Extrêmement polyvalent et athlète émérite, c’est avec la même passion pour la haute performance qu’il prend place devant la caméra. Cet artiste d’expérience a en effet plusieurs productions à son actif. Tantôt truand, tantôt héros, Nils aime se glisser dans la peau de personnages aussi diversifiés que son expérience l’est.

Né à Greenfield Park, Québec (Canada) Nils a grandi sur la Rive Sud de Montréal. Adolescent, il était activement impliqué dans le théâtre et l'improvisation, mais sa passion était plutôt axée sur le sport en fréquentant l’École Secondaire Royal George. À 16 ans, il commença à s'entraîner sérieusement en athlétisme, et obtint une attention nationale dans l’épreuve du lancer du marteau. En 1993, il se joint à l’équipe nationale junior canadienne d’athlétisme. Une carrière internationale s’en suivra, avec plusieurs participations dans des championnats partout en Amérique du Nord, en Europe, et en Afrique. Après avoir reçu son DEC en 1995 en Science Pure et Appliquée du CEGEP Champlain de St-Lambert, Nils s'est vu octroyer une bourse d’étude en athlétisme par l'Université d'Oklahoma, importante institution de la NCAA (1ère division) américaine. Il obtient son baccalauréat en Science du Sports et de la Santé (1998) et sa Maîtrise en Physiologie de l’Exercice et Performance Humaine en 2000.

La passion pour le cinéma apparut quand Nils fut encouragé par un ancien professeur d’expression dramatique du secondaire à poursuivre une carrière professionnelle d’acteur. Toujours en Oklahoma, il commença à étudier le jeu à la caméra et l’art scénaristique avec le Département Cinématographique d’OU. Il se lança ensuite dans des projets de télévision locaux à Oklahoma City et Tulsa. En 2000, Nils part pour Los Angeles, et saute dans la grande jungle hollywoodienne. Sous la supervision de Jon Simmons, il continua à étudier son métier en Californie en compagnie d’acteurs comme Chad Michael Murray (Les Frères Scott), D.J. Cotrona, et Brian Wade. Il fera également partie de la distribution de films à gros budget comme Windtalkers (Nicolas Cage), Showtime (Eddie Murphy et Robert De Niro), et Sorority Boys  (Michael Rosenbaum, Barry Watson, et Harland Williams). Il travailla aussi dans la série Boston Public, mettant en vedette l’actrice originaire de Montréal Jessalyn Gilsig.

Nils est d’abord et avant tout un fin observateur de la nature humaine. Impliqué dans plusieurs projets tels que la rédaction d’articles scientifiques traitant de la périodisation en physiologie de l’exercice, de l’enseignement de l’éducation physique, de la kinesiologie appliquée en ostéopathie clinique, et de la gestion de stress / visualisation / entraînement autogène pour haute performance, cet artiste-scientifique porte un regard réfléchi sur le métier de comédien. Cette réflexion se reflète donc dans son approche de la scène, qui se veut toujours riche et constante. 

Suite à une absence de deux ans pour s'entraîner avec le programme de développement Olympique de Bobsleigh à Calgary, Nils est de retour au Québec pour travailler en phase de pré-production pour un long métrage intitulé « The Mouth of Truth ». Nils est le producteur exécutif, le scénariste, et l’interprète principal de ce drame se déroulant dans la Rome Antique et co-produit par les États-unis et l'Europe. Le tournage est prévu pour 2010 en Roumanie, en Italie, au Canada et aux États-unis.

Il a récemment terminé la réalisation de son premier long métrage, "The Cedar's Tears" (Les Larmes du Cèdre), dont il a également scénarisé, produit et interprété.
